Another common pitfall in listing a certification is attaching logos or scanned copies of the certificates that you received. It may look nice, but it greatly increases the resume file size without really adding much value or content to your resume. No one reading your resume will really pay much attention to pictures. It’s sufficient to simply list the certification.

Never, ever provide references in your resume. It’s a really bad idea and will not help you get the job. There must not be a References section on your resume.

Keep in mind that once you submit a resume, you are no longer in control of what happens to it. It could go to the direct employers, but also to HR representatives, recruiters, and any other number of people. In order to respect the privacy of the people giving you references, it’s imperative to not list their personal data on your resume.

If your resume ends up falling into the wrong hands, you don’t want people providing you with a reference to be harassed or targeted for scams. In some situations, having references listed on your resume could even enable someone to help other jobseekers to benefit from your references.
